Realizes $500 From Party
About $500 was realized for the, Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department Friday night, July 14, at the bingo, party, held at Sperryville school auditorium.
Robert Estes held the lucky number ticket and was given the television set. It cost him $5, ‘however, for he jokingly told his brother, “Mutt” Estes, that he would bet him $5 to a nickel that he wouldn’t win it. When the announcement was made that Bob had received the television set, bis brother reminded him of the bet and made him give the $5 to the fire company.
A large crowd, representing every section of the’ county, was on hand to help the newly organized
ladies auxiliary to tjie fire company give their first [party. Every lady in Sperryville, and many of their nearby neighbors, worked hard to make the party a success and they have every right to be proud of the job.
The evening was one of sociable entertainment. Visitors played bingo for a while and then sat •round the sidelines and enjoyed good company and good conversation. , .4,
The crowd was larger than anticipated but extra tables (were brought in add the people took turns playing.
Joe Johnson conducted an auction of some of the gifts donated for the bingp table. The prises were such nice ones that the auction was arranged.
At the conclusion of the party all of the food on hand was auctioned off—including the cooked hot-dogs—but many of the gifts were kept. The ladies plan to have these gifts on hand , for another party soon.
