Home at Eaton Rapids, Mich.This home was built and is maintained by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and their Ladies Auxiliary, but no one has ever been known to enter except those whose father was a member -of the, VFW. Nevertheless, the Chairman of the Board of the home and its members were contacted and the case explained to them. On May 18, Comrade ' Marvin Hargraves, Commander of Wilkins-Edwards Post 176, Newport News and two members of the Auxiliary left for the National Home' with the three Smith children. Thirty minutes after the children left for the home, Mrs. Smith was taken to the hospital with only a fe^ days to live, but happy in the know-' ledge that her faith • in the VFW was not broken. Mrs. Smith died) on Memorial Day as taps were sounded during the Memorial Day Service. Mrs. Smith’s courage and faith in the VFW should certainly be a lesson to us who are so easily discouraged.
The Banner Auxiliary Chairman announced that twenty auxiliaries had won their banners. Mrs. Bruce Rothgeb received the banner awarded to Comer Jones
