When our ancesters first settled in Virginia, the extent of the original forests .was ao vast that until recently no one thought they could possibly be' exhausted. At first the forests were a nuisance te be removed, and later, a source of income to be taken advantage of. The result of this impact on our wood reserves has been tragic. So tragic that with a growing population , a constantly improving standard of living and an ever increasing demand for forest products, the proper management of our present woodlands is a must.
