The Rappahannock Garden Club will meet at the home of Miss Ethel Long at 2p’clock Wednesday, August 30. -*
The exhibits will be specimens of dahlias and arrangements^f Dahlias or other summer annuals. Children are Very cordially invited to attend this meeting, as there will be a class of flower arranging at the meeting for them, Becky Jones will also speak on her trip to Nature Camp, and Mrs. George H. Davis will speak on her course of flower arranging, she attended at VPI.
Post Office Department
Defines Word "Lottery”
Letters have been received by newspapers from the Post Office Department in Washington, D.C., signed by Frank J. Delaney, department solicitor, stating: - “Any newspaper or publication containing any advertisement of any lottery, gift enterprise, or scheme of any kind offering prizes dependent . . . upon a lot or chance” shall be fined not more than $1,000 or imprisoned for not . '* more than two years or both.
Mr. Delaney said this included use of the .word “pari-mutuel” in print.
There were queries from variout points throughout the Nation as to whether the order applied to the word only when used in rmm results, or if it prohibited any use of it, even in general, or feature stories.
No one was certain, even after one editor had telephoned Washington for a “simple explanation” of the letter.
