Back in the Spring the weatherman predicted it would turn warm and stay so for ten days. Faithfully following this well-schooled prognosticator, the county paper published his sage report. The next day it turned “cold as Christian charity” and stayed that way.
In midsummer this same weatherman predicted wet dog-days. ’Twould rain, quoth he. The county News immediately printed same. The drought that followed is all too fresh in the memory.
We’ll profit by previous experience, decided the News. This time the county paper prepared to fox that old bird, the weatherman: we’ll print that he predicts two more months of dry weather, and then it’ll rain! Yes-sir, we’ll print about the drought and bring out the umbrellas!
