Brower says 4-H club boys interested in the flock project are being encouraged to start out with commercial grade ewes, and then later, if they like, to work into the purebred business. The club members must keep accurate records, and are eligible for valuable premiums. Complete information is available from all county agents or from D. E. Brower? Blacksburg.
Rappahannock boys who have been successfully enrolled in this project are: Douglas Martin, of Amissville; Richard Griffith, of Woodville; and Kelly Updike, of Washington. Four new sheep projects were started this summer with Francis Bruce, Donald Gore, Jackie Sisk, and Jonas Alther. In all, Rappahannock boys, own 69 r head of ewes and replacemep* ewe lambs. Also each flock is headed by a purebred ram. And— if there is anything to crystal ball gating—one of these boys will be winner of the 1961 sheep shearing contest.
