Military Training
It is very plain that we are faced with a long range national defense program such as we have never before known. It is imperative that we have an impregnable defense at home, so far as we are able to achieve it. ■
I will support an effective uni-# versal military training program as an essential part of our program of defense. -
A universal military training program can, in some measure, be substituted ,for a part of our greatly increased standing army. The average cost of each soldier in the regular army is $4,000 a year.
Further, I have been disturbed as to the number of rejections of the draftees on account of physical defects, and I feel a universal military training program will result in correcting many physical defects of those who are trained.
