Bridgforth said that the 1951 wheat allotment is broken down by counties on the basis of recent production history. For that reason, some county allotments may be larger and some smaller than in 1950. — individual farm -wheat-acreageallotments for 1951 will be released by PMA county offices later.
The U. S. Department of Agriculture does not consider wheat supplies on hand large enough to require marketing quotas on wheat in 1951 which would mean stricter controls and penalties for non-compliance. However, farmers are eligible for government price - support only if they plant within individual allotments.
“This country is now in a very sound position with regard to wheat,” Bridgforth pointed out, “and under average conditions production from allotted acreage will assure abundant supplies. Wheat allotments are a carefully calculated plan to provide enough i wheat to meet all forseeable requirements of the nation, and at the same time maintain a reasonable reserve for years of crop failure or national emergency.” *--'1 --—>—
