Farmers Express Wish
For Soil Survey
A project, Map and Soil Survey for Rappahannock, which was started some years ago by former county agent H. S. Barksdale, has begun to see light by the present county agent W. H. *Lyne as chairman, H. S. Barksdale, E. M. Jones, and other interested farmers of the county.
The project was discussed at a meeting Friday, July 28, of the agronomy and Horticultural Committees.
Among the interested persons ■ who went in the spring to see Dr. Obenshain, Dr. Young, and others soil specialists of V.P.I., were H. S. Barksdale, W. H. Lyne, J. R. Latham, Charles Estes, and E. M. Jones. These men returned to Rappahannock convinced that the counties which proved to the men at V.P.I. that they wanted a soil survey and map made of the county would be the rfist ones to have this work done.
As a result of this interview, specialists from the Experiment Stations, V.P.I. specialists, and L. B. Henrietty, and other met at the Courthouse with about 30 farmers who wrere interested in securing a survey of Rappahannock soils.
These specialists explained in detail the survey work. Facts, with the demonstration of their work with soils in Sperryville, Woodville, Scrabble, and Ben Venue, convinced these farmers to such
