Virginia farmers soon will vote •again for committeemen, from their own numbers to administer programs of the Production and Marketing Administration next year.
It’s the same thing they’ve been doing since the mid-thirties, only this year the election is to be held earlier than usual. August 29 is election day this year, whereas in recent years it has been in the late fall. But thcre’s a reason for moving up the "ate, according to C. D. Jordan, State PMA “ Chairman. He said it was in order to allow time this fall for PMA committeemen to make personal' on-farm visits with farmers in .signing them up for participation under the 1953 Agricultural Conservation Program (WSP )."
Jordan, noted that ACP is one of ifye principal programs administered by his organization, and that special emphasis in 1953 will be placed on fitting the conservation practices performed under the program to the individual farm needs.. IJe said this mean^ that PMA committeemen will consult with each farm operator as to which conservation practices will effect the maximum results for the AC P funds available^ The period between election time. August 29, and the beginning of the ACP program year, January 1, 1953, will he spent in draining committeemen in this work and in the actual farm visits to sign up farmers under the program.
