Rappahannock 4-H boys and girls will be at Powell’s Fort Camp during the week of August 18-23. To be eligible a 4-H’er must have completed at least one project this year.

Peaches, oh boy! We all just love to eat a big juicy peach. But how else can peaches be used. Of course for this winter’s use you will want to freeze and can some. To can peaches you should peel and pack in jars; add syrup made of *2 cups water to 1 cup sugar; or precook 3 minutes in syrup, .pack and add Syrup and process in boiling water hath for 20 minutes or pressure cooker at 5 lbs. pressure for 10 minutes. Freezit^g peaches offers another problem. To keep from darkening (lip sections for 1-2 minutes in a solution of 14 teaspoon citric acid dissolved in.l quart water or use % teaspoon ascorbic acid to 1J cups of sirup. S

An unusual treat—try tasty jam made from peaches and plums.

PEACH AND PLUM JAM

Peel ann pit 1£ pounds peaches and pit 1 pound Italian plums; chop finely. Measure fruits: there should be .3£ cups. Add 1 box powdefed fruit

pectin and 41 cups sugi^r: mix well and heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Heat to full rolling boil and^fSil hard 1 minute. Remove from heat and skim. Seal in hpt sterilized glasses. -Makes 8, 6-oz. glasses

Fresh glasses can be used to make the best frozen' desserts. Add some crushed peaches »to your favorite vanilla ice cream. Mrs. Bertha Compton’suggests as a time saver not to whip the cream until mixture is partially frozen. Remove from ice cube tray and then beat. The ice cream will be much smoother besides a saving of much beating. .

Another quick frozen dessert made of peaches:

FRESH PEACH PARE AH'

Melt 20 marshmellows in double boiler; add juice of 1 lemon. Cool slightly; add 1 cup fresh peaches crushed. Fold in 1 cup heavy cream whipped; freeze in tray automatic refrigerator about 2 hours. Serves 8.

CRUMBLY PEACH PIE

Mix 1 cup sugar, 14 cup flour and 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg; cut in 1 cup butter until crumbly. Sprinkle half the crumble mixture in a 9 inch pastry lined pie pan. Arrange peach halves (Vi-8) cut side down over crumbs^nnd cover with remaining crumf> mixture. Add water and hake in hot c then in minutes.
