It will pay to feed grain concentrates to the better milking cows. But the grain mixture must be balanced to properly supplement the variety and quality of roughage fed. In any event, the average daily rate of milk production for each cow should be the guide as to how much grain should he fed to each cow. —
It is better to feed a -''smaller amount of well-balanced grain ration adapted to the roughage fed, than to feed a large amount of unbalanced grain ration to supply the feed the cows need. If the roughage is of low quality and some good quality roughage is not obtainable, it would be better to buy some high protein supplement to be mixed with any home-grown grams as a ration to be fed with the available roughage.
