James F. Cannon
Funeral services for James Franklin Cannon, 85, of Castleton, who died last Monday following a lingering illness, were conducted Wednesday, November 10 in Geest Chapel with burial in the "Fairview Cemetery in Culpeper. The Rev. Messrs. Joseph S. Graver, R. L. Trout and Joseph E. Whitmore conducted the services.
Mr. Cannon was the son of the late Thomas Cannon and Mrs. Sarah Johnson Cannon of Rappahannock County. A retired merchant and postmaster, he was also a deacon and the treasurer of thp Mount Salem Baptist Church in Rock Mills for a number of years.
Mr. Cannon is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nena Hockman Cannon; 2 sons, Ray T. Cannon and Alphaeus Cannon of Castleton; a foster son, John Henry Settle of Castleton; one sister, Mrs. James Updike ' of Boston; and one brother, Oswald A. Cannon of Cedar Grove.
Active pallbearers were Thomas Williams, Dr. J. P. Snead, Irvin H. Bennett, A. W. Hawkins, D. D. Miller and Maxwell Willis.
