Virginians are taking their recreation seriously these days, says Miss Catherine Peery, V.P.I. Agricultural Extension Service rural arts specialist.
Following the lead of medical specialists who recognizes the need for fun as well as vitamins to maintain health, Virginia rural homemakers have decided to bring fun and family together again. In several Virginia counties, home demonstration groups met recently to plan a home and community recreation program. They are especially concerned with channeling the energy of young people into wholesome activity. They hope to strengthen family ties and to get the greatest pleasure out of rural life.
Music, singing together, story telling, reading aloud, dramatics, hobbies such as crafts and collecting, family outings nature hikes, and celebrating holidays and birthdays are some of the activities which they consider important.
