This United Nations is a very difficult proposition to understand.
The natives in the Congo want the Belgians out, so they get the United Nations to put plenty of pressure on the Belgians in the Congo, and the Belgians ask why? The united nations say because the Congolese must have the right oi self determination and you should get out. The Belgians get out and what happens? The Congolese suddenly start killing one another andsdraping missionaries and so forth ^ntil it is necessary for the United Nations to send several armies to stabilize the situation. In the process, the United Nations spend so much money they are running out of credit.
Then to make matters worse, along comes this Tshombe and says Catau'ga, the richest most westernized province of j he Congo, should seceed and be independent. The Congo/ asks why? and Tshombe says because we want self determination just like you and the United Nations are talking about. We agree with you this self determination is a fine i ing. Now the United Nations rtiust be tired of this self determination because it says to Tshombe and Catauga produce, no self determination for you. So Tshombe fights the United Nations which costs the United Nations even more money and their credit is really running out.
Probably it is this lack of credit that makes the United Nations look the other way and take no action when India invades Portugese Goa. And it is this lack of credit that makes President Kennedy say the United States taxp yers fund rmist buy 100 million dollars worth of United N tons b -nds.Of course these bonds will be redeemed by cont ibutions from the United Stat s Treasury.
Like I say, this United Nations is a very difficult proposit ion to understand ... or could it be the United States that is more difficult to understand. ,
