Dorothy Davis may well rurr into some interesting things in her travels when she goes to Japan next month. She was laughing and saying she and “Trippy” Keating were going to have a ricksha race when they got there, like the G.I.’s used to with bets on the side, but I have bad news for her. In an article I was reading the other day it stated:

Now if she went to Berlin she might find that vending machines on the streets of West Berlin are marvels of politeness. To the purchasers of cigarettes, fresh fruit, handkerchiefs, and other items, a woman’s tape-recorded voice murmurs, “Vielen Dank,” or “many thanks.”
