A Weighty Problem \
Some veterans and widows of' deceased veterans who have not| been eligible for Veterans Admin-] istration pensions because of not enough actual military duty may now qualify. A «ew law permits adding to the veteran’s active duty period the certified time to took to travel directly home after separation from service.
All veterans discharged after December 31, 1956 have already been credited with travel time but most World War I and II dischargees became civilians when handed their separation papers.
The pension claims of quite a few veterans and widows have been disallowed by the VA because of less than 90 days service. By adding the travel time as certified by the veterans’ branch of service some of these veterans will pick! up the extra day or so needed to qualify. Since the VA cannot identify the claims affected by the new law, any person who thunks he may now be eligible, including Spanish-American War veterans, should get in touch with my office or the VA. Edward M. Mathews, of the Front Royal Office of the Division of War Veterans’ Claims, is in Washington at the Clerk’s Office on 1st and 3rd Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 p. m. and will gladly give more details on this subject or any other matter connected with veteran’s affairs.
