Heart Research
Fund Established
The American Heart Association announced today the establishment of the “Dwight D. 'Eisenhower Research Fund of the Heart Association.”
In a comment on the establishment of the new fuud, General Eisenhower said: “I am anxious that the voluntary health agency active in the heart disease field should receive a maximum of support for carrying forward its efforts in seeking a solution to this great problem.”
Dr. J. Scott Butterworth, President of the American Heart Association, said it is hoped that the creation of the fund named for the former President will stimulate additional and much needed gifts to the heart research. The Heart Association also supports programs of community service, professional and public education, with public contributions to the annual appeal conducted through February.
General Eisenhower became Honorary Chairman of the American Heart Association’s Board of Directors a few months after leaving the White House. Long a supporter of the Heart Fund, he has on several occasions commended the work of the Association and urged Americans to join him in the crusade against heart and circulatory diseases.
