This was based on his observations of weevil activity in Alfalfa fields having been treated with heptachlor by this method. Actually the results of trucks being out of adjustment, unproperly calibrated or improperly driven. As of September 4th, 1962, Dr. Rowell revises the above quote: “Bulk spreaders can be used satisfactorily as applicators for the fertilizer-heptachlor mixture in the fall treatment only when they are properly adjusted and operated tjKdeliver the recommended amount of thesS^ mixtures jevenly over .the alfalfa fieWpDnly the premixed fertilizer-heptachlor mixtures — preferably those prepared by sprayon or “impregnation’ method— spreaders. Otherwise poor results may be expected. For this reason, I trust our custom spreaders attended the clinic on spreader-truck calibration held recently at Culpeper.

Somehow our shipment of the revised MS-105 was not received. We are trying to locate more so a copy can be sent to all Alfalfa growers as there are several pertinent changes in control recommendations. In the mean time we will be happy for Alfalfa growers and custom spreader-truck owners and operators to come by the office to; study our one copy of the nqw Alfalfa Weevil Control leaflet.

Completion

Inspection of herds consigning to the Rappahannock Angus Breeders sale will be completed Tuesday afternoon of this week. Around 1300 head likely will be approved from forty-eight herds. New consignors are: W. L. Payne, Jno. T. Woodward, A. J. Copperthite, Mrs. Lelia Noyes, James Falls, Gordon Thornhill, Col. E. A. McNear, Eldon Inc. and W. E. Pullen. Inspection of calves going in the 1st Culpeper Sale Have been completed, 170 'being approved from six herds. H. L. Manwaring is consigning to three Winchester sales and Mrs. Fannie Eastham to one. Inspection of these will be completed this week.

In addition several Rappahannock yearling producers are consigning to the Madison yearling sale.
