Tina Carr was appointed to the Highway Committee and will work with the Virginia State Department of Highways on street maintenance.
Appointed to the Budget Committee were Virginia Miller, Dorothy Hawkins and Dorothy' Davis. They were instructed tc present their recommended budget at the next meeting for consideration by the Council. This Committee agreed to meet on Tuesday, Sept. 18.
Mary H. Lea was elected clerk of the Council and Virginia G. Miller will be responsible for issuing checks. Robert L. Brown will continue as Town Treasurer.
Morgan Johnston appeared be* fore the Council to request the removal of the tool shed which pbgtRiCts^the all§y that gives a<> cess to' the back of his property He further stated that he first made the request last spring and< needs the use of this entrance to his property within 30 days.
Members of the Council stated that steps had been taken to remove the tool house and instructed the Mayor to ascertain the recent developments. The Mayor was further instructed to contact others who were obstructing alleys with cars and other personal property. It was pointed out that there is an ordinance against parking for more than 24 hours. The status of the Water Works was discussed and George H. Davis, Jr., Town Attorney, was instructed to bring to the next meeting a report on current indebtedness and the possibility of the Town regaining ownership
