For the past week or ^o in Rappahannock the typical question of newspaper workers “What’s the news? What do you know?" receives almost a parrotlike reply “I know it's cold". And cold it is. Tuesday morning official reading was minus 5 in the town of Washington with outlying readings reported as low as a minus 9 at Viewtown and a minus 8 in Tiger Valley. However, this cold has been under clear skies with little or no wind. And one has only to hear and read reports of the terrible hardships caused by extreme cold plus snow and wind across the nation to realize our good fortune - so far. So, though in no sense of the word, to be wishing time away it is true that every fair day is one less bad day held in Old Man Winter’s bag of tricks.
