Cared for 449 Babies
During Past Year
The Children's Home Society of Virginia had 449 babies in care last year.
Miss Lois Benedict, General Secretary, in her report to the Annual Meeting of the Society in Richmond, stated that 507' of the babies placed by the Society in 1962 were in their adoptive homes before they were three months old.
“Because there are more barbies HY«Jhil«ble npw and the i same number of .families applying for them, the time families have to wait is shorter than previously,” said Miss Bened’c*. "Last year 73v' of the families took their baby home within nine months of the day they made application.
“Each adoption changes forever the lives of at least four people—mother, child and two adoptive parents.” continued Miss Benedict. ‘Such work is not undertaken lightly. Its values are not easily weighed.
“The two new parents who take a child for better or for worse. to be their own. rightly ask of the Society the responsibility and skill that contributes to a sound new relationship.”
The total income for the Society was $245,OSS and expenses were $246,333. Allocations from united funds and community chests totalled $104,598 and contributions from individuals was $60,485.
