btates is in the total industry of agriculture. These are jobs > that a knowledge of basic agricultural principles are essential or highly desirable. These types of Jobs vary to a great extent and range all the way from the hired farm worker to the fertilizer sales man to the research chemist. There is a growing demand for trained workers in the areas of soils, forestry, fertilizers, chemicals, farm machinery, nursery and greenhouse work, turf manage ment, and many others in addition to the need for better trained farmers. At least two workers in off-farm agriculture will be needed to supply and service each farmer and process and market his products.
The high school program in vocational agriculture does not claim to adequately train all its enrollees in the variety of Job opportunities but attempts to provide basic knowledge in the fields of animal and plant science, management and mechanics. Instruction is designed to provide the basic information necessary for developing the student’s understanding of the fundamental principles and procedures that apply to the various segments of the total industry of agriculture.
