The number of summer forest fires in Virginia continue to break existing records. District Forester D. i G. Wilfong, Jr., of the Virginia Division of Forestry, Charlottesville district, reports one or two forestfiresare being reported daily in the sixteen-county Northern Piedmont district.
This summer more forest fires have been reported than for the total number of summer fires for the past five ! years. Although the size of tiie forest fires have been rather small, with the lar- j gest reported being 45 acres in Amherst County, summer fires are very damaging. Unless a sufficient amount of precipitation is received during the -next six weeks, the Division of Forestry predicts a serious fall forest fire season.
