Virginia can claim many “firsts”. Among them is the first “ThanksgivingDay” observance in America. Although millions of Americans have been taught that the first Thanksgiving Day celebration was held by the Pilgrims at Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1621, several such observances had taken place in Virginia long before the Mayflower sailed.
