Edwin Belt was held Friday at Rappahannock Courthouse, Washington with Judge Mark Woodward of Luray presiding* Belt wpfe charged with aggravated assualt with a deadly weapon with intent to main, disfigure or kill, as a result of his entering the courthouse and drawing a gun on George H. Davis, Jr., Commonwealth’s Attorney, in his office.
Erwin Hackley, prosecuting attorney of Page County, acted as Commonwealth's Attorney for Rappahannock and Roby G. Janney of Luray was counsel for the defense.
Mr. Hackley asked for a psychiatric e x a mination of Belt and met severe opposition on the motion from Janney who stated that the defense was being railroaded (there is doubt in my mind as to who was getting rallroadedEd.) At this point Janney asked for the court room to be cleared for a closed hearing which Judge Woodward granted. Everyone except officials were excluded and witness were recalled one at a time.
