Statistics show that the seasonal variations of agricultural accidents follow a somewhat regular pattern. The highest peaks occur during July and August. They are composed largely of accidents and mishaps due to harvesting, the filling of silos, and repairing of equipment.
Then there are the accidents in which very small children and younger boys and girls are involved while playing about machinery. Other accidents are caused by men at regular work and doing the normal routine farm chores as well as building and repairing shelters, barns, and sheds. Farm animals also cause some additional accidents during these months.
Summer is the season when more city and urban children visit relatives on farms. And frequently they are more or less turned loose on farms to roam and play at will without supervision, thinking they are safe from traffic. Visiting children are usually totally ignorant of the many hazards to be found on farms, and too frequently become innocently involved in serious orevenfatal accidents.
