12:05 a.m., Sunday, July 12th, 1.7 miles south of .Washington, on Route 211. A 1964 Dodge sedan driven by 21-year-old James Stewart Bettis of College Park, Md., and a 1955 Pontiac hardtop driven by 30-year-old William Robert Jones, Arlington, .collided when Jones made a left turn in front of Bettis as he (Bettis) was endeavoring to pass Jones, Trooper Ashley said. Damage to the Bettis car was estimated at $350 and to the Jones vehicle at $300.

Bettis was charged with reck, less driving and Jones with illegal turning. Deputy Sheriff Ernest Lillard of Rappahannock County assisted at the scene of the accident.
