service to cancer patients. Those present were privileged to hear an informative ■and stirring address by Dr. Andre G. Jessiman, Jr., Chief of Surgery Service of the Cul peper Memorial Hospital. Dr. Jessiman presented a background of cancer, what is used to be, what is now known and what can be expected in the future, and cited that, though great strides have been made and are being made, the cure is still in the distant future, and depends upon constant research. He congratulated the organization on the enthusiasm it has shown and urged that in their work they stress the importance of early diagnosis by advocating frequent check-ups. He also pointed out the importance of optimism as the reverse of despair as the goal of the organization worker.
Chairman Estes expressed her appreciation to Dr. Jessltnan, Mr. Jones, Mrs. Palmej to Mrs. James Smith and her nominating committee, toMr& Galley Smith and her By-laws committee and last but not least to Miss Charlotte Dawson, Representative of the Virginia Division of the American American Society, for being present and for her untiring work in making the organization of the Rappahannock Unit possible.
