Wallace A. Tarpley, Assistant Extension Entomologist, states the following- in his July 3rd report of Virginia Economic Insect Detection and Reporting Service: “FALL ARMYWORM (Laphy gma frugiperda) larvae are now damaging several crops in Georgia (reported as early as June 22), and we can expect them to appear in Virginia in the near future. This species is able to overwinter only in the extreme ^outh.
