About one-third of all agricultural accidents occur during the performance of routine farm chores, such as milking, cleaning the barns, taking care erf the cattle, spreading manure, tilling the fields, and the like, says EasleyS, Smith, agricultural engineer at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Fifteen years ago, accidents caused by farm animals were second in order of frequency in the United States. Next in order were tools, machinery, and farm vehicles. However, during the past 15 years even smaller farms have become mechanized, and the larger ones even more so.
