Trip to Alaska
Mrs. Lewis J. Turner and daughter Miss Carolyn Turner left today for a trip to Fairbanks, Alaska where they will visit Mrs. Turner’s son and daughter-in-law Capt. and Mrs. Lewis John Turner, Jr. and son. Their journey from which they expect to return August 11 will take them by train steamship and bus. Leaving Washington, D. C. by train they will change in Chicagc and take the North Coast Ltd. to Seattle through the Montana Rockies, then the Great Northern Railway to Vancouver, British Colombia. There they will board the S. S. Glacier Queen, cruising the famed Inside Passage, Endicott Arm Fjord (subject to tidal conditions) and calling at Ketchikan and Juneau. Arriving at Skagaway they will take the White Pass and Yukon Railroad to Whitehorse with luncheon at Lake Bennett. F'rom Whitehorse a motorcoach will be taken over the Alaska Highway to Fairbanks. Ending the Fairbanks visit on July 23 the trip by motorcoach will be taken over the Haines Highway by the beautiful Dezadeash Lake over the “Dalton Trail” to Haines. There the SS Glacier Queen will return them to Vancouver with a cruise through the iceberg filled Tracy Arm. A stopover will be made in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago with side trips to many interesting points, such as the Giant Redwood Trees, Bonneville Dam, Disneyland, Beverly Hills and the Grand Canyon.
