Scholarships to the Senior 4-H leaders hip camp at James town were provided by the Rap pahannock Farm Bureau tc Tommy Wil liams, Carty Moffett, and Alletta Beebe. The camp was June 16-20. Our thanks for the Farm Bureau’s support and interest. Local fairs and farm shows are coming up. Several 4-H members are planning to exhibit at these fairs. The Warren County farm show is August 16-111. Generally, the following requirements by fairs prevail. 4-H members exhibit in the junior classes. They must have t:aken the project during the year. The Culpeper farm show may want to see a member’s 4-H project record book also. Health requirements are list ed in the fair catalog. Contact the county agent’s office ir. Culpeper or Front Royal for Culpeper and Warren Coun ty Fair information. Generally, cattle must have a negative T. B. test within 30 days of the show. For Brucellosis, cattle must come from herds with negative tests or if under 30 months of age, the females can be shown without the brucellosis blood test, if the females have had the brucellosis vaccination. Take the certificate of vaccinations with you. Any unvaccinated breeding aniamal over six months must have a negative brucellosis test within 30 days of the show.
It is recommended that cattle also have vaccinations for hem orrhagic septicemia blackleg and malignant edema. For hogs, all swine must be vaccinated for cholera and erysipelas within twelve months but more than 21 days before the show. Ear tags and vet certificates must be available for the show committees. Protect yours and other livestock by having them meet these health requirements when showing at fairs. Those who will attend the 4-H short course at V.P.I. June 28-July 3 are Gloria Durden, Ellis Smith, Eleanor Rector and Tommy Williams. Eleanor was winner of the county 4-H Share-the-fun contest and won a free trip to Short Course. C. G. Thornhill and Martha Lou O'Bannon are fattening up some of their hogs for the Orange area 4-H hog show and sale on August 24.
