What About Creep
Feeding Beef Calves?
Should-beef calves be creep fed? It depends, says A. L. Eller Jr., animal husbandman at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. (Creep feeding is feed'' ing calves additional feed, over and above the ration the
^dults are getting. Feeders are made so that adults--by their size--are prevented access to the feed.)
The ultimate goal of creep feeding is to increase profit. In some cases it does, and in some cases it doesn’t. In most tests run on creep feeding, says Eller, the figures are on the wrong side of the profit ledger for calves on good pasture. It is hard to increase the value of feeder calves enough to pay for the additional feed and labor if pasture conditions are favorable.
The purebred breeder may still profit from creep-feeding bull calves, regardless of pasture conditions, if an additional 25 to 50 pounds makes a bull calf bring $50 or more

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN thal pursuant to Sections 29-125, 29-126 and 29-127 of the (.’ode of Virgin a,1 the Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries on May 7, 1965 adopted the following amended Regulation:
5. Foxea, Hunting with Guns and or j Dcgs, Trapping, Unlawful Shooting: (a) It shall be lawful to hunt' foxes with dogs in the counties of I Clarke, Fairfax i except that section closed to all hunting), Fauquier (except within the confines of Quantico Marine Reservation) and Loudoun only from September 1 through March 11, and in the city of Newport News I not be hunted with dogs in Clarke county during the open season for hunting deer in that county. It shall be unlawful to hunt foxes with dogs in Amelia County during the day time from April 1 through September 1.
(b) It shall be lawful to hunt foxes with guns east of the Blue Ridge Mountains October 1 through January 31, and west of the Blue Ridge Mountains from the third Monday in November through January 31, with the following exceptions:
In the counties of Appomattox, Chesterfield, Franklin, King George, Patrick, Pittsylvania and Prince Edward the season shall be the third Monday in November through January 31, except red foxes may be hunted in Chesterfield county at tiny time, and it shall be lawful to hunt foxes in Richmond county at any time.
(b-1) It shall be lawful to hunt foxes with gun and dog in BrunswirK County beginning the third Monda. in November through January 5.
(c) There shall be a continuous i open season for hunting foxes with both gun and dog at the same time in Augusta county except during the open season for hunting deer and in the National Forests during the general closed season. Foxes may not be hunted with gun in Augusta county except from one-half hour befoie sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.
(d) It shall be unlawful to shoot foxes in Albemarle, Amelia, Charlotte, Clarke, Culpeper, Fauquier (except within the confines of Quantico Maline Reservation), Halifax (except on regularly organized game preserves i, Loudoun, Louisa. Nottoway (except 1 red foxes), and Rappahannock cour.- J ties at any time.
(e) It shall he unlawful to shoot foxes in Stafford county from n« to her 1 through January 31.
(f) Foxes may lie hunted in the «now in Rockingham county du-ing the open season for same.
(g) It shall he lawful to trap l..\c< statewide from Novembet 15 through January 31, except there shall be a continuous open season for trapping foxes in the counties of Augustu and Richmond.
(h) It shall be unlawful to imp foxes in the counties of Claikc, Fauquier, Loudoun and Rappahannock, except that foxes may be trappiu anywhere upon request from the State Health department for the purpose of controlling rallies.
This shall become effective July 1 1965
