Rapp-Chats

By \Y. H. Lyne The Wool Pool proved somewhat harassing this year. For the first time, that I recall, there was intermittent light rain and mist. Your scribe had been told the pool would be held unless; there was hard rain or, word of cancellation came from Fauquier. There was neither. Got up before day to milk “Two Spots," fed the dogs, took my wife to her class and was at Culpeper Co-op before farmers started arriving. Had assured a couple early callers (during the shaving process) “yeah, yeah, yeah, the pool would be held for sure, sure, etc.! Got to Culpeper as planned. Ranny Aylor, the first face recognized, bellowed, “What yoq’re doing here Lyne . . no wool pool today according to radio. Hum ditty la, but I’d been put in the middle which made me boil; temper’s highly volatile on such occasions. Blew a gasket. Called to stop producers. Went back to county. Weather was much the same next day. Most everyone planning to pool got their wool there on time. Ruby on phone at office. Me calling the rest of numbers from the Co-op. Wound up with 5054 pounds from Rappahannock from 24 producers. Last year there was 6960 pounds from 26producers. Sure hate seeing our sheep population declining so fast. Money - making livestock, these sheep. I know, I know! Have heard a thousand different ways why them. If you are one of those bellyachers, then don’t cry tome about not being able to make money on livestock.

If you would be well liked, be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
