The Washington Volunteer Fire Company will open it's annual benefit carnival at the newly purchased carnival grounds on Tuesday night, June 29 for a five night stand. The permanent location is across the road from the Lake Motel near the residence of L. V. Merrill and provides ample space for the biggest rides this carnival has ever had, and parking, too. A new permanent food stand is being completed to provide the hot dogs, hamburgers, cakes, pies and drinks so necessary to the enjoyment of a carnival. Work is going on each night to finish the stands and lighting in time for the opening date, June 29th. Door prizes will be given away each of the five nights Tuesday through Saturday. Wednesday night the Grand feature Parade will start promptly at 7;00p.m. from the Washington Eleme ntary School according to Parade Chairman, Bertha Armel, and box suppers will be sold at it’s conclusion at the carnival grounds. More than 100 units are expected for the parade that will feature as Grand Marshal, Miss Nancy Ruth Manuel of Front Royal.
