A Spcrryville man died Thursday morning June 24 in the University of Virginia Hospital of gunshot wounds sustained the evening before. The shooting victim was Fred William Jenkins, 49, farm manager for Mrs. C. R. Hite, Sperryville, where the shooting occurred. Charged with the fatal shoot ing is Robert Festus Jenkins. 41, who also was employed on the Hite farm. The two men were not related. According to Sheriff Charles K. Estes, the victim was up a tree picking cherries when he was shot by Festus Jenkins who told the Sheriff he was out squirrel hunting when he saw the branches of the tree moving and saw something gray which he thought was a squirrel.
Benefit Supper July 4th
The Home Demonstration Clubs and other friends of the Library are planning a delicious plate supper for those who wish to come to the Historical Exhibition and demonstration in the evening of the Fourth, and stay on for the Fireworks at Avon Hall, Washington. The supper will be reasonably priced, and will be available near the monument by the Methodist Church. Supper will be served by 5:30 and continue until fireworks time about 8:45 p.m. Those who wish may take up places on the lawn of Avdn Hall overlooking Avon lake. The entire profit goes to support the Rappahannock Library.
