The Democratic gubernatorial slate in Virginia won an easy victory in Tuesday’s election. Mills E. Godwin, Jr. was elected as the 21st consecutive Democratic governor of the state. Challenged by Republicans and third party Conservatives, Godwin took an early lead and piled up a substantial margin over Republican Linwood Holton, Jr. and Conservative William J. Story. In the race for State Senator for the 20th District George S. Aldhizer, II, Democrat, was victorious by only 353 votes
