I feel this letter merits publication - Ed. Mayor Dorothy Davis Washington, Virginia Dear Mayor Davis: You have in your small city some very fine citizens and friends to mankind. My family and I were on our way to New York City through Washington, D. C. My wife Genie was driving and she said that the car was not braking properly. I had her turn off the Parkway onto the highway leading into your city. Less than a mile*from the crossroads and in front of Bob Estes’ fruit stand she pulled off the road and had no brakes. 1 took the wheel and the car would not go at all. We walked down and met Mr. Bob Estes. He was very nice and accommodating, allowing us to use his phone to call Mr. Merrill to come and pull us in. We talked about his fair state and sampled his delicious peaches. This was on Saturday, August 14, at about 2 p.m. Mr. Merrill arrived later, picked up our car, and carried it to your city for repairs. Mr. Merrill told us that a wheel bearing- was bad and that it would be 9 p.m. before he could get it repaired because of other commitments. We explained to him that we were stranded and he took us to a motel and helped us find a room. The people were
