Dangerous Drugs and Chemicals Prevalent Around Home. 'From 2,911 reported poisonings in Michigan for one year, 54 persons died including 16 children less than 5 years old. Insecticides rated fourth in poisonings, aspirins being the most common culprit. Almost all the materials on the danger-drug list are either common household materials or are kept in the home or garage. The list includes bleach, soap-detergent, lighter fluid, furniture oil, hormones, perfumes, vitamins, amphetamines, laxatives,etc.’ October Chemical Drug Pesticide Newsletter.
************ Twin Heifer Calves Needed. Dr. T. N. Meacham, Virginia Tech Animal Science Department, Blacksburg, says, *We need 10 sets of twin heifer calves to use in long-term experiments on the effect of different nutritional and management practices on growth, reproduction per formance, milk production and longevity of beef cows. “The use of twins greatly reduces the number of animals needed for research of this type. One set of twin heifers is equal to eight or ten unrelated animals for research purposes.” - The Extension Service News.

We start off on farm planning with Mr. William Parrish, a pasture program with Mr. Bozell and Recognition of Conservation F a r m e r-of-the-Y e a r meeting at Graves’ inn near Criglersville where General Daniel Noce was the honoree. Next was contacting farmers having completed Farm Management Unit [ about enrolling in the Unit II Course. There will be the usual ASCS County and SCS District meetings to attend. Thirteen 4-H Clubs to meet, Cattle Branding Demonstrations on the 12th. Leaving 9 days to do our Linear Programming job which the powers that be say will require 180 hours! Umph!
