(Continued from Page 1) mounts went admirably for the rest of the day. As always, someone became entangled in a huge, hateful grapevine on the first mountain ascent. That someone this year was Arlene Wake. Like Laocoon, she remained long in the toils of the coils--so long, in fact, that she and her patient big chestnut lost the field and had to settle for a pleasant ride over hill and dale. The episode to complete the familiar picture of an opening meet was Sharon Stone’s sad little story. Her handy quarter horse would not load in its trailer on October 30, 8 a.m., not for love, nor oats, nor whip. So she hacked 8 miles from her farm, “Hawthorne’’ to “Stonehaven”, in time to welcome back the first contingent of hunters returning from the chase. Why the Unspeakable continue to pursue the Uneatable, as Voltaire so unsympathetically put it, we wonder too, but we do! The Muths’ gay “breakfast” once again lasted until well after suppertime. As in many past years, the Master Caterer, Rudolph, produced a fare, Boeuf a la Chasseur, to delight the most discerning and satisfy the most ravenous. Our favorite opening-meet host and hostess launched the season with the best of all possible parties! Mr. and Mrs. Muth’s houseguests were General and Mrs. William H. Nutter, Mr. and Mrs. Lee D. Latimer, Miss Mary Hobbs and Flora Lee Muth, and Mrs. Muth’s handsome young cousin, Lt. Dan Black, all the way from Texas.
