Daniel Noce (U.S. Army Ret.) of Castleton was recognized as conservation farmer of the year from Rappahannock County at a dinner meeting held Mo day night at Graves Mountain Lodge, Syria, The award is made annually by the Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District of which Rappahannock is ajjart. __
In presenting the awardeertificate, County Agent W. H. Lyne commented* uriefly on the practices carried out by Gen, Noce, stating that his conservation plan was as complete as any he had ever seen. This pla n was begun in 1955 on Laurel Hill Farm which consists of 1167 acres and involves 182 acres under improved crop rotation, 118 acres contour farming, 413 acres improved pasture, 4 acres in sod waterways, 3 acres wildlife development, 345 acres of improved woodland and 3700 feet of open ditch drainage. Gen. Noce has used his skill and experience as an engineer to carry out and improve his farming. On Battle Run he made a cut off to prevent flooding of the highway and bottom land and made a revetment fill to prevent erosion.
