Health Grants

Made For Training

The State Department of Health has been notified of grants from the U.S. Public Health Service for two different training programs. Dr. Mack I. Shanholtz, State Health Commissioner, announced the grant this week. One is for a short-term training program to be given six medical and dental students in the summer months. It will be the first time the Department has received federal funds for this purpose. The $6,528 grant was requested by the Department’s Division of Local Health Ser^ vices, in cooperation with Medl cal College of Virginia’s Department of Preventive Medicine.

The other award is for a train ing course for nursing in tuber culosis and other long-term respiratory diseases at Blue Ridge Sanatorium in Charlottesville. The $2,112 grant is in response to an applica tion by the Bureau of Public Health Nursing.
