Two Virginia teen-agers have talked their way into high 4-H Club honors.
For Laura Anne Swartz, 17, of Buckingham Court House, the outstanding girl in the Virginia 4-H Public Speaking pro-_^ gram, the prize is a chest of silverware. And Howard Cash, 14, of Poquoson, the outstanding boy, is sporting a new 19jewel wrist watch for his forensic talent.
The prizes, donated by The Pure Oil Company, were announced by the Cooperative Extension Service, which sponsors the 4-H program.
Miss Swartz, an auburn-haired senior at Buckingham Central High School, says she is most proud of having won the Virginia Public Speaking Achievement Book. Her record also includes a state blue ribbon, seven county-level blue ribbons, two district level blue ribbons and two trips to the Virginia State Short Course in public speaking. She has made 132 public appearances since she became interested in public speaking in 1958.
Cash has been a 4-H’er for only four years. But in that time, he has captured the title of state public speaking achievement winner and three district titles.
Miss Swartz and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Swartz, live on a 274-acre farm in Buckingham County. Cash and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Cash, live in Poquoson.
