Rappahannock BCIA
Group Formed
Rappahannock cattlemen organized what is felt to be the first county Beef Cattle Improvement Association in the United States last Friday night in the County Agent’s office. Since every organization must have a name the group chose Rapp-Comm BCIA. Charter members include H. L. Manwaring, Norman Wilbur L. B. Archer, Judge and Mrs. R. V. Snead with a combined total of 246 cows. This group is purchasing a portable set of scales and will do their own weighing and grading. Adjusted averages, daily gains and indexes will be calculated and reported to individuals enrolled in the state program at a $10.00 annual membership fee. Initial investment per cow in the herd to cover scale cost was set @ $1.40 per cow. A weighing charge of $0.10 per calf will cover scale depreciation and replacement. The group requested that a grading school be held the first part of August. Others interested may become charter members by (contacting Lois D. Snead, Treas., Washington, Virginia.
