Conservation Camp
The two Rappahannock 4-H Club members to attend State 4-H Conservation Camp this year were Susan Payne of Boston and Tommy Williams of Flint Hill. Mr. Arils Frymyer, Extension Agdnt, Agriculture from Warren County was the leader from ourarea. Over one hundred and eighty Senior 4-H Club members, adult volunteer leaders, Extension Agents and instructors attended Conservation Camp at 4-H Camp Farrar, Virginia Beach, July 18*-23. Extension Agents selected top 4-H members to participate in the program which emphasized instruction in the conservation of our natural resources and leadership. Classes were taught by professional workers from VJP.L the U. S. Soil Conservation Service and other professional organizations. These instructors provided training to increase our appreciation and understanding for natural resources. Wise and intelligent use of all resources were emphasized.
Oceanography seemed to be the favorite, at least it was mine. Activities in addition to classes included swimming in the ocean, athletics, teenage discussions, social games archery, firearm safet/ council circle, vesper, and talent programs. Susan and I received $5.00 scholarship to Camp Farrar. In addition each camper received a partial scholarship given by Mr. Charles L. Horn, President of the Federal Cartridge Corporation in Minneapolis, Minn. The state 4-H members between the ages of 15 and 20 attended. They will put into practice the knowledge which they have gained at 4-H Conservation Camp in the wise use of natural and human resources in their home communities.
