1. All calves should be creep fed; this will improve the calf and take suckling pressure off the cow. 2. Cull cow herd hard. 3. Sell heifer calves and move mothers to poorest pasture letting other cows with! steer calves have bestgraz-j ing. 4. Wean steer calves and full feed grain in dry lot til1 market time, or send steer calves to market. 5. Dry cows can be carried through on extremely short rations. 6. It will be wiser to feed a small amount of grain on pasture and save hay for winter,' With half a feed of hay or silage this winter, four pounds of grain will get them through. Why not use grain now while they are getting roughage f rom pasture rather than using hay. 7. Remember breeding herds are hard to build, so pull every idea out you can think of to keep foundation herds alive. A good creep ration for calves: 250 lbs. whole oats, 750 lbs. shelled or coarsely cracked corn, and 100 lbs. pelleted protein supplement.

At Amissville
There will be a lawn festival at the Amissville Methodist Church grounds on Saturday, July 30, 1966 beginning at 5 p.m. Refreshments for sale will be Virginia ham sandwiches, potato salad, hot dogs, drinks, cake and ice cream, etc. The public is invited to attend.
