The question of what constitutes a farm is one that comes up constantly in the operations of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS). This is especially applicable in the case of dividing a farm or adding tracts of land resulting from sales, settlement of estates, or the appropriation of land for public use. For purposes of ASCS programs, there are a number of provisions which must be given consideration. These concern ownership, operation, accessibility, and nearness, as well as the productivity of different tracts. The ASC county committee requires specific proof from a farmer where there is any doubt as to ownership. Land owned separately by different members of an immediate fanrv ily living in the same household and operated as a single farming unit is considered to be under same ownership for ASCS program purposes.
