A change in the disability program makes it no longer necessary to be permanently disabled in order to draw bene fits for yourself and your family Under the amended law; benefits are payable if you are unable to work as the result of a disability which is expected to last at least 12 months . . benefits which will start with the seventh month of your disability. Children of retired, disabled, or deceased workers now may receive monthly bene fit checks during ages 18 through 21 ... if they are full time students within the mean ing of .the law. Widows may now receive benefits based on their deceased husband’s account at age 60 . . if you are willing to accept a reduced rate. The widow's benefits will be reduced by 5/9 of 1% for each month you draw while under 62. So . . . you can draw a little less for a little longer, There are also benefits fox divorced wives and widows . . provided they were married to the wage earner for as much as 20 years and certain other requirements are met. They will be glad to assist you in filing your applications. You can qualify for Medi care regardless of your income . . but you must be 65.
