PASTURE AVAIL* ABLJL _ Jint -BUI Coates advises there is a total of around 1400 acres of land set aside in the county as result of the various ASCS programs. In time this land could be released. Such is expected any day. Property owners having such land will have to refund a part of the diverted acreage payment if it is released. Possibly you can get some of this land by making the refund. Other livestockmej* have reported having found a field of grass ungrazed this season which they have rented. Possibly there is more; but if so I don't know where. Some of you may have some brushy land you have intended cleaning up but haven’t done so due to pressures of work during a normal season. Sassafras bushes have maintained many an old cow through periods of feed scarcity.
4-H Short Course
(Continued from Page 1) in'person, and the 4-H AllStar Ceremony, into which certain outstanding 4-H members are initiated with the highest honor a 4-H'er can obtain. Tommy Williams and Aletta Beebe became AllStars this year through their many accomplishments and their widespread interests in 4-H. The end of the week came all too soon for the Short Course Delegates and we were soon back home. Even though my dream of going to 4-H State Short Course has been fulfilled, it is not finished for there is always the hope of being able to go again next year.
To represent my county at VPI was a privilege for which I am highly grateful. Many of my goals for my future years in 4-H have come from this week of friendship and education. Many of the things that I learned at the 1966 Annual Virginia State Short Course have and will make me strive to make my own •BestBetter".
